DUTY FREE is a twenty-one day long sculpture in the Leipzig/Halle airport by Erik Göngrich and Stefan Shankland taking place from the 18.6 to the 6.7.2008
DUTY FREE is the first collaboration between the two artists. They have taken over the airport’s duty free shop and transformed it into their studio. It has become a place of production, experimentation and exchange about the form and function of sculpture in a context of globalisation.
DUTY FREE is a public artwork created for the duration of AusFlugHafenSicht, part of the International Festival Theater der Welt.
GO PLACES is a sculpture by Erik Göngrich and Stefan Shankland made up of a 14 meter wide chalk ring and 20 bikes.
GO PLACES is situated in front of Leipzig/Halle’s airport mall, the glass-tube in the foto above.
GO PLACES enables visitors to move around the village of Kursdorf that is entirely surrounded by the airport’s terminals and its landing strips.
GO PLACES links the 3 sculptural propositions made by the two artist for the AusFlugHafenSicht project: DUTY-FREE-STUDIO located in the airport’s futuristic mall, SILENT RESIDENCY situated in an abandoned house in Kursdorf and WATCHING THE WORLD GO BY positioned at the end of Kursdorf in a field with a fantastic view onto the incoming and departing planes.
